He is holder of numerous titles and ranks in martial arts, including 7th Dan in Wado-ryu Karate, 2nd Dan in Korean HoSin-sul Hapkido and 1st Dan in Malaysian Taekwondo. Sensei Derek Ridgway is the founder of the now worldwide association Kazoku Kai International. As well as teaching in his Hombu dojo, Sensei Ridgway travels across the globe to teach Karate to an ever growing family of Karate-Ka. Sensei Derek has trained with Peter Spanton, Roy Partridge, Toru Takamizawa, K. Sakagami, M. Shiomitsu. He also trained with people such as the late Steve Cattle, who was one of Derek’s closest friends. Derek continued his Wado training (which he still does) but was always looking and searching for something more. That was when he met his Shito-Ryu Sensei Shihan Keiji Tomiyama, who is a master of both the Shito Ryu and Goju Ryu schools. Over the last 20 years, Derek has included more and more of Sensei Tomiyama’s Karate into his own training programme. In December 2000 Derek passed his 6th Dan. He now teaches either Wado or Shito-Ryu to an ever growing amount of students worldwide, with members throughout Europe, the U.S.A. Canada, India, Bahrain, Nepal and Venezuela.

All Kenagi students are always welcome at Sensei Dave’s and Sensei Derek’s Dojos. They are two of the friendliest instructors around and it is a pleasure to know and train with them. Kenagi thanks you both.
